The 1965 Fender Bandmaster is a 40-watt "Blackface" era tube amplifier head featuring the sought-after AB763 circuit, providing clean, scooped tones and built-in tremolo. It features two channels (Normal and Vibrato), 6L6 power tubes, and solid-state rectification, commonly paired with a 2x12" piggyback cabinet.

Key Technical Specifications:

  • Circuit/Model: AB763 (Blackface)
  • Power Output: ~40-45 Watts
  • Tubes: 2 x 6L6GC (Power), 3 x 12AX7, 1 x 12AT7 (Preamp/Tremolo)
  • Rectifier: Solid State (Silicon Diodes)
  • Channels: 2 (Normal, Vibrato)
  • Controls: Volume, Treble, Bass (per channel); Speed, Intensity (Tremolo)
  • Impedance: 4 Ohms
  • Speaker Cabinet: Typically 2x12" (loaded with Oxford 12T6 or Jensen C12N speakers)
  • Cabinet Dimensions: Approx. 24" x 9.5" x 8.5" (Head only) [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

Distinguishing Features:

  • Tremolo: Known for a strong, smooth tube-driven tremolo effect.
  • Pre-CBS/Transition: 1965 models often feature "Fender Electric Instrument" faceplates, though many shifted to "Fender Musical Instruments" mid-year.
  • Usage: Known for being a versatile "studio secret weapon" with a slightly smaller output transformer than a Pro Reverb, offering a "fat" clean tone.

This example is in very good condition and sounds great! It's ready to gig - the electrolytics have all been recently replaced, and it's been modded to have tremolo on both channels. Original iron all dates to mid-1965. The normal channel is running a nice vintage RCA 12AX7, and the vibrato channel is running a really sweet sounding Blackburn produced Mullard. The output section is running a vintage set of Amperex branded small bottle GE 6L6 tubes. The cabinet is loaded with the original Oxfords. A few pieces of the tiltback hardware and the feet for the cabinet are MIA. A grounded AC cable has been added as well. Incorrect tube chart was applied at the factory as is known to have happened with Fender at times. Great sounding amp - it's got the Fender scoop going on, and it's also nice and punchy with the closed-back cab. Local pickup.
