Up for sale is a vintage Pioneer QX-949A quadraphonic receiver, manufactured in Japan during the mid-1970s. This is one of Pioneer’s higher-end quad receivers from the golden era, featuring a built-in CD-4 demodulator and classic 4-channel capability.
Cosmetically, the unit is in very good condition for its age. The faceplate is clean, all original knobs and switches are present, and the wood cabinet shows only minor wear. The unit presents very well and displays nicely when powered on.
Functional condition:
- Powers on with working dial and indicator lights
- AM/FM tuner operational
- 3 channels output strong, clean audio
- 1 channel has low output with noticeable white noise (likely needs cleaning or repair)
- Quad scope display is partially functional (lower portion not working)
- All knobs and switches move freely
Highlights:
- Made in Japan
- True quadraphonic (4-channel) receiver
- Built-in phono stage (turntable ready)
- AUX and tape inputs
- Classic Pioneer build quality
These units are becoming increasingly collectible, especially complete examples with clean cosmetics like this one. With some servicing, this could be an excellent vintage centerpiece system.
