Original vintage 1970’s Audio Design & Recorddinf (ADR) F690-RS voice over limiter in excellent working condition!
The F690 RS is essentially two compex dynamics units with the option to control independently in dual mono, or stereo linked. This is THE sound of the drums on “when the levee breaks,” and all those killer 70’s records! Strap this on the drum bus, overheads, or kick/ snare, and you are rolling! Also awesome on big electric guitars.
These were sold as the “voice over“ limiter, because you also have the ability to slave one channel to the other, so that channel one (overdub) “duck‘s” channel two (program material).
While we likely wouldn't be using this function today in an AM broadcast scenario(!), it is a neat trick in the studio for awesome sidechain compression, slashing for example, bass to kick, kick to snare, etc. Mostly, I’m using it as a stereo compressor for bus duty. Awesome unit, makes everything move.
