About the unit:
Perhaps one of the cleanest and meanest AKAI samplers we've had the pleasure to finesse.

**Future-proofed for another 30+ years of performance.**

Fully functioning unit, pulled from smoke free production studio, crisp display with very low hours, (this was a spare back-up unit) upgraded with:

  • 128 voice polyphony (Reverb oddly embeds default specifications. This unit is 128 Voices polyphony maxed out, upgraded from 64)
  • 16 analog outputs - Max | Factory 8 plus fitted with NOS IB-S508P additional 8 (as seen in photos)
  • 256MB internal RAM - 4x 64MB (Max) - Tested, High speed, High performance
  • Upgraded to latest OS 2.14 (V2)
  • Floppy drive removed, replaced with ZuluSCSI USB-C 2026 & White bracket
  • Original AKAI Rear Expansion USB Card (as seen in photos, and connected via USB 1.1 to an old Macbook pro running 10.10.5, Mac not included)
  • 1TB SD, fully compatible (as seen in photos) - YES! 1TB....
  • Pre-loaded with the 85+GB ‘Drum and Breaks Dispensary’ library of original and analog processed vinyl based drum breaks, one hits, drum loops, FX, and more.
  • Pre-loaded with 30+GB of Roland sound libraries from mid to 90’s to early 2K’s.
  • Pre-loaded with 20+GB of Emu libraries.
  • Pre-loaded with 50+GB of MPC processed drum breaks and breakbeat loops from early 90s ‘til infinity.

*Synths listed above, processed via Mackie, API, Focusrite ISA, DBX 160SL, TC Electronic, Altec Green, Altec Black, Valley People, TL Audio, SSL, Soundcraft, EarthQuaker devices, EHX, OBNE, and Drawmer analog and digital outboard chains.
  • Also 64 classic Akai S1000, S3000, and MPC CD-ROM libraries from 1994-2004, pre-loaded across 20x SD cards, with endless libraries containing classic and vintage synths and samplers, already keymapped. EVERY SOUND LIBRARY LISTED IN THIS SHOP, and then some.

***THIS IS 60+ GB OF VINTAGE SAMPLE LIBRARY***
  • Also pre-loaded with professionally configured autoload folder, allowing for the automatic retrieval of your programs, keygroups, instruments, samples, and multis - all upon boot up.
  • 2X Midi In, Out, Thru
  • 2X External rear SCSI ports
  • 3 prong IEC power cable
  • 30 days 1:1 support

A few light surface scuffs on chassis.
A light surface blemish on the top right of the display.

What contemporary available new or aftermarket hardware instrument (or computer + DAW/software instrument + soundcard combo) these days is powerful enough to render 128 voices in realtime, at the same time??

If you had an 88 key midi controller, and pressed ALL THE KEYS AT ONCE, you'd still have 40 voices left in the chamber. Couple all that with 16 analog, multitrack outputs in tandem, 8 of which newly expanded.

Seriously!

So what about all these libraries and format?
One of the brilliant, forward reaching aspects of the S5000/S6000 operating systems, is that it included FAT32 filesystem compatibility. This is what allows for the S5000 to read, access, process, and write files/samples to volume sizes upwards of 2TB, and is inherent to FAT32. The S5000 OS is always backwards compatible in that the sampler can also read/load/process libraries and formats from previous.

In the second and third to last photos, the unit is booting up with a fresh SD card, formatted with the content of 4 CD-ROM libraries. The S5000 recognizes this one SD card as 4 separate drives, each drive with multiple volumes/partitions.

Whether your sound and productions are geared towards the dance floor, towards sound design, towards orchestra, cinematic, or anywhere in between, this instrument has the capability, depth, expansion, and endless libraries to continue to deliver.

Sure there are other S5000 samplers online, though if you want to faff around with archaic, external SCSI devices, requiring a larger footprint and power demands, those options are out there.

If you're seeking a turnkey, professionally overhauled classic unit, fully maxed out, upgraded to shift into high gear and rock for another 30+ years, with very low hours on the display and internal power supply, from a trusted, highly rated technician - This is it.
