Fargen Epic 30 Combo 2003 - Cream Tolex

For sale, a unique and hard-to-come-by Fargen Epic 30 combo, in cream tolex. If you ever dreamed of owning an early, hand-wired version of the Vox 30, well, this is damn close and more. Hand-wired and hand-made, one at a time, by Ben Fargen in Sacramento, CA, this amp offers up some of the sweetest and chimey clean tones you ever heard. But that's not all it has to offer. With the Epic 30's Decade Switch, you can go from Vox 30 chime (down position) to smooth, round Fender tones (up position). And the amp works great with pedals through the front end. You can push it into overdrive without pedals, but it is very loud. There is no master volume, only a regular volume control and three tone controls for EQ--Low, MId, Treble--and the Decade Switch (it is actually labeled Reverb on the front panel). The amp is powered by four EL-84 power tubes and two 12AX7 preamp tubes. There are two taps for 4 and 8 ohm extension cabinets, as well as a Low power switch that cuts the output to 18 watts from 30. I installed a Fane/Avatar M65 speaker in this combo, and it's perfect for the tones of this amp.

The amp is in great shape; I would've said excellent except it has a few smudges and is a 20-year-old amp. So I rated it Very Good. Ben uses all the top-shelf components in his amps, so they are built like tanks and last nearly forever. I hate parting with this amp, but I have a few other Fargen amps and really don't need something this powerful now. It doesn't get played like it should, so I've decided to sell it and recoup my investment. This is the epitome of a boutique amp, thus the somewhat high price tag. But it's worth every penny and, like I said, will last damn-near forever. The amp also comes with an aftermarket Line 6 cover that works well, and offers some protection and keeps dust off the amp when not playing.
