Sony WM-D3 Professional Walkman Recorder + Sony ECM-909A Stereo Microphone – Serviced – With Case

For sale is a Sony WM-D3 professional portable cassette recorder, supplied with its carrying case and a Sony ECM-909A stereo microphone.

The WM-D3 is one of Sony’s best-known professional Walkman recorders and was widely used for journalism, field recording and location sound. Unlike consumer Walkmans, it was designed as a serious portable recorder, featuring manual recording level control, high-quality microphone preamps and a precision transport.

This unit has  been professionally serviced and is in very good cosmetic condition for its age.

Operation

• Playback: working well and sounding as expected
• Fast-forward: operating normally
• Rewind: functional, but the button needs to be held down manually
• Record: can be engaged if the record button is held down, but behaves somewhat tempermentally and may require the tape to be removed and reinserted afterwards
• Peak level meter: working correctly

Because of this behaviour, the machine is best considered fully usable as a player, while the recording function may require further attention if reliable recording is required.

Microphone

Also included is the Sony ECM-909A stereo electret condenser microphone, designed to pair with Sony’s professional Walkman recorders. The microphone works very well and is ideal for portable recording, interviews or field work.
