Both speakers have been thoroughly tested and are fully functional. Cones move freely and smoothly with no rubbing. Polarity is correct. Each speaker has been sweep-tested with a signal generator and presents cleanly across the frequency range, with no acoustic anomalies. The cones are in good condition.
Maintenance & Restoration Work
Both speakers have received careful, sympathetic maintenance by R&CC to ensure long-term reliability while preserving originality.
Speaker 1 in the photos had deteriorated adhesive around the spider, which had partially detached. The remaining degraded glue was carefully removed from both the spider and frame. The frame was cleaned and de-oxidised. The dust cap was lifted to allow cleaning of the voice coil gaps, the cone was properly re-centred, and the spider was re-glued before the dust cap was refitted.
At some point in its life, the dust cap had been lifted and re-glued with a brush using heavy-handed strokes, and the cap itself almost flattened. It's been re-shaped before being refitted although remains flatter than it was originally.
Speaker 2 in the photos exhibited no rub during manual testing but the adhesive around the spider was failing. So, the spider was lifted, the degraded glue was carefully removed, and the frame cleaned and de-oxidised. The dust cap was lifted to clean the voice coil gaps, the cone re-centred, and the spider was re-glued before replacing the dust cap.
The cone on this speaker showed evidence of previous adhesive work to the outer edge of the speaker cone where a small tear ran along the outer pressed fold and down through the doping towards the paper cone. This glue had failed and has now been touched in using a sparing amount of adhesive to close the gaps and return this area to strength and stability.
Cosmetic Notes
Speaker 1 has a melt mark on the magnet cover from a wayward soldering iron. The date code on the same speaker is faded.
