The Mad Professor 1 (One) is a combined distortion/reverb pedal to provide the sought after “Brown” sound of the late 70’s, early 80’s when played through a clean amp.

The ‘Brown’ tone is one of the most sought after guitar tones in the world. Usually it requires a ton of vintage gear, but Mad Professor bottled that tone in a compact pedal featuring a fantastic medium crunch to very heavy distortion and a reverb too. This can transform your clean channel into a saturated, British style distortion with an expansive reverb all in one.

You have three controls for the distortion: Brown, Level and Presence. Brown leverages your distortion from a medium crunch tone right into very heavy, saturated distortion tones. The Level is just what you’d think it is controlling the output level, and then the Presence helps you shape your tone, specifically the amount of high end on tap.

For the Reverb you have a simple single control that controls the level of the beautiful 80’s style studio reverb. The decay and tone is designed to match the style of the distortion, and it does that very well. However, if you want to make changes to the reverb, inside there are two trim pots to do just that.

Being a Mad Professor drive pedal also means using your volume control on the guitar will also effect the distortion really well (just bear in mind if you use a buffer before this unit, that won’t work quite so well). We find it also works really well with a range of pick up types.

So, that’s the Mad Professor 1 (One) pedal. We love it. If you’re after ‘that’ sound , it really doesn’t dissapoint.
