The Twenty Four Guitar Amplifier

5W 6V6 all tube guitar amp

Inspiration on designs can come from anywhere. I was listening to questions on the Monday That Pedal Show broadcast on YouTube and the words boutique came into question and what it was and was it higher quality parts or just some design aspect.

If you could see my desk where I am writing this it’s a mess with tubes, parts 3 monitors and so forth. When that question came up I was looking at new ceramic octal gold plated sockets. The next question came up about really old amps that used 6SL7 in the input instead of the usual 12AX7/ECC83. The wheels turned and yes I pulled out paper and drew up a schematic using the same power transformer as the LunchBox (Heyboer 120/240) and the MagneQuest custom 5K:8 output transformer both made in the USA. I then said ok lets go boutique and really glam this up. All three of the tubes are octal or 8 pin tubes, what should I call it? Ok Three times Eight = Twenty Four.

This amp is not at all like early other amps, sorry I don’t design that way. I optimize everything that is in this and ran a prototype and it sounded crazy good. First, like all my amps the gain tube has a DC regulated filament supply to keep it extra low noise. Second why not use the best! I have 5K NOS tubes here and about 400 of those are variations of 6SL7 (6188, 6SL7GT, 6SL7WGT JAN and others). I have a fair amount of NOS 6V6 and the only rectifier that will work with this combination and the Heyboer power transformer is the 6ZY5G which are readily available on eBay.

Small amps like this are great, because you can send them into overdrive without compromising your hearing or your neighbor :)

The amp is 4-5W, with Gorva 500K volume and tone pots, ceramic gold pin sockets for all three of the tubes, Black Gate filter caps, Shinko Tantalum resistors, V-Caps coupling caps and Wima tone caps. Take a look at eBay prices for Black Gates $$$, there are 5 of them in the amp.

Amp comes with power cord and two sets of tubes, Sylvania NOS 6188 & 6SL7WGT both JAN, JJ 6V6 and NOS 6ZY5G rectifiers. NOS select your tubes is available, DM me for prices. 10” x 6” x 6.5” high and 7.5lbs

Input 1M, output 8 ohms, Power 5W, draws 25W from the wall at 120Vac rms. This does have international primaries if you are interested DM me. This is #2 and #3 of 5.

If you have questions or a need for a custom amplifier or pedal, don’t hesitate to ask as I am always up for coming up with something cool that gets your tone closer to what is in your head.

Like wise I do have available both the LunchBox 4W 8" combo and the LunchBox 12W 8" combo available. Will add some soon!

If your looking for something specific in amps or pedals, don't hesitate to ask. I do a lot of one off versions of my products for artists.

Thanks Gordon
