Here is a brand-new A&F Drum Co. Raw Copper Bop Outfit in the classic 12/14/18 configuration, handmade in Austin, Texas.
Built from A&F’s raw copper shells and hoops with their proprietary hardware and hand-applied patina treatment, this kit has a voice that is warm, low-mid focused, and remarkably full for its compact sizes. The 18" bass drum keeps the footprint small, while the metal shells give the kit a depth and presence that feels much larger than a conventional bop setup.

Full Description
A&F Drum Co. approaches drum building more like metalworking than conventional shell manufacturing, and the Copper Series is one of the clearest expressions of that philosophy.
Each raw copper shell is cut, rolled, welded, and sanded by hand. A&F then treats the copper with its oxidizing process to begin the patina, giving every shell its own individual surface character. Straight 45-degree bearing edges complete the shell construction.

This outfit consists of:

• 8x12" rack tom
• 14x14" floor tom
• 14x18" bass drum

Despite the compact bop sizes, these drums are designed to tune surprisingly low.
A&F describes the tonal difference between its Copper and Brass kits almost like comparing mahogany with maple: Copper emphasizes more of the lower mids with slightly less high-frequency attack. The result is a warm, rounded voice that still retains enough punch and definition to remain articulate.
That character makes the kit particularly appealing in recording environments. The softer top end and strong fundamental give microphones plenty to work with without requiring the drums to sound overly sharp or aggressive in the room.
The raw copper shells are paired with A&F’s custom hardware, hand-cut leather gaskets, raw copper hoops, and Remo Ambassador heads.
The finish is intentionally organic. The patina is part of the design rather than a conventional applied cosmetic finish, so each drum develops its own visual character and will continue to age naturally over time.
This is a genuinely unusual instrument: compact enough for smaller stages and recording rooms, yet capable of a much broader and deeper sound than its dimensions might suggest.
