The DiMarzio PAF 36th Anniversary Neck Humbucker Pickup continues the great tradition of pioneers such as Seth Lover for creating humbucking pickups that feature: a soft magnetic field, sweet tone, perfect balance between warmth and clarity, and the ability to go from clean to distorted by pick attack alone.

These 36th Anniversary pickups are not merely PAF clones. DiMarzio have re-engineered the classic using their patented technology with help from Larry DiMarzio’s own 1959 cherry sunburst Gibson Les Paul as the reference. Larry’s Les Paul has a uniquely amazing sound and it’s not only due to the pickups, it’s the total fusion of many elements of the guitar itself. Although the pickups have a weak magnetic field, the sound is well defined almost like a single coil. They duplicated this weaker magnetic field, allowing your strings to vibrate longer, as well as to focus and articulate the attack and output. They also use computer controlled winders to consistently layer the 42 gauge custom coated wire, achieving an exact frequency response. It's dipped in a custom formula to eliminate squeal and microphonics, letting your chosen notes take centre stage.

There is no reference standard for the sound of a humbucker from the 1950s. All of them had variations in output and tone, and these differences could be quite large. DiMarzio have focused their research on making pickups with warm highs and bright lows. This combination is only found in their favourite vintage humbuckers, and it’s really good for a pickup intended for both the neck and bridge positions. It allows the bass strings in the neck position to avoid muddiness, and the treble strings in the bridge position to be warm and not brittle.

This neck position pickup is smooth but not muddy. It performs equally well in the neck or bridge position, just as the best humbuckers from the 50s did. The bridge version is hotter than this neck pickup. It is not only for set neck 24 3/4 scale guitars but is also an excellent bridge pickup for trem equipped bolt on models. Featuring four conductor wiring for parallel humbucking and split coil modes, giving you tons of options. Single coil mode is bright, but not at all sterile sounding.

The DiMarzio PAF 36th Anniversary Neck Humbucker Pickup pushes the boundaries of PAF style tone, giving you soulful playing response and defined heritage character.
