About This Listing

Bought new around 2017 or 2018. Spent all of its time in a smoke-free and pet-free home studio. Less than 20 hours of use. Near mint condition but putting "excellent" condition just in case. Some light scuff marks. Tested the day of this posting to make sure it works like new.

Original tubes are still installed and sound great. No documentation. No original box. Just preamp and power cord.

Sound is similar to Engl PowerBall's preamp. Good for rock to extreme metal tones. Sounds good with overdrive pedals like Maxon Super Tube and boosts like Fortin Grind, but pedals are not necessary.

If you use pedals - DO NOT power this on the same outlet as a OneSpot pedal power adapter or any other crappy power adapters. OneSpot will add noise to all your pedals AND this preamp. Use an isolated pedal power supply like Voodoo Labs makes.

For an idea on the noise level this produces when using a mixer - If you use high gain mode, and use the lead channel, and have gain at maximum, then you will have about -33db of noise assuming you set your normal playing volume at 0db. This is less noise than going direct with most of my distortion pedals with an overdrive pedal in front. As with most high gain, you may want to use a noise gate in front or one of those effect loop gates like the ISP G-String. Personally, I would just use a gate on the final signal in my DAW since it's not much of an issue.

4-channel tube preamp for guitar with a 1.5-watt headphone amp for silent practice. This 4-channel Engl tube preamp has much more to offer than just being the heart of a modern Rock rack system. Besides the convincing clean, crunch, and lead tones, a balanced recording compensated output helps you lay your parts straight into your hard drive. A stereo 1.5-watt power amp works with any cabinet or headphone for silent practicing.

The two main channels, Clean and Lead, feature dedicated voicing sections, gain pots and volume controls for precision sound shaping and fine-tuning. The Gain Lo/Hi switch converts the Clean channel to a Crunch channel and, in the Lead channel, the sound spectrum encompasses everything from Heavy Crunch to Ultra Gain. With a 4-band voicing section featuring two midrange bandwidths and a Contour switch that can be accessed via footswitch or the optional ENGL MIDI Switcher Z-11 (sold separately), the Lead channel is amazingly versatile. Another handy feature is the Defeat function, which bypasses the preamp and routes the guitar signal directly to the output. This feature enables you to connect two preamps in series and this option enlarges the tonal spectrum. The variable Stereo Line Out and a frequency compensated Line Out give you a wide range of application options. For instance, you can patch the preamp signal directly to a mixing console or recording device and simultaneously drive a stereo power amp.Features
