About This Listing

POLISI STANDARD BASSOON MADE IN GERMANY - ALL NEW PADS - PROTEC CASE. Ready to play!

S/N 12xx. Beautiful red stained maple wood with a glossy finish and French style bell ring.

The bassoon has been thoroughly overhauled in my shop, Woodwinds Are Life. All corks, pads, key felts, etc, on all parts and pieces have been replaced. The original case has been replaced by a brand new Protec case, which the new owner of the bassoon may register with them.

The bassoon was then thoroughly play-tested by myself and a few other bassoonists. It plays very well from the low Bb to a high Eb, which is pretty impressive considering that it doesn't have a high D key.

Mr. Polisi was a professional bassoon player who ordered these instruments for the US market, from either Kohlert or Schreiber, and finished them in the States to his specifications. This particular bassoon is the Standard model, which has no high D key.

The extra key on the long joint is a trill key for low C#. This is from a bassoon forum about the key:

"I know the genesis of that C# trigger near the low C key. In 1963 or 4 I ordered a new Polisi bassoon from Bill Polisi himself. While showing off his own instrument, he told me that when he was recently playing in the orchestra of the TV show “The Bell Telephone Hour”, someone had composed a low C# to D# trill for him. He vowed never to be put on the spot with this again, so he had this key installed on all Polisi bassoons."
