Oud KAMEEL MOWAIS & SON SIMA'AN 2019

If you are looking for that authentic romantic old school Arabic Oud sound, you are in the right place.
This oud delivers the nice sharqi (Oriental) sound that reminds us of the sound of the great Oud players from the 30s, 40s and 50s in Egypt and Syria.


This oud was made by the famous luthier Mowais and has his distinct and sought after sound. Strong and defined bass, great projection with quick decay that is perfect to play Arabic style takasim and oldies. Soundboard is cedar wood.
Bowl and pegbox is a combination of walnut and maple wood.

Pegs: Ebony Paris Pegs
Rosette has the original Kameel Mowais Arabic calligraphy.


Size is comfortable and smaller than the big Iraqi or Syrian ouds. Not as small as a Turkish oud.

Length (from nut to edge of the oud after the bridge): 71.5 cm


Widest part of the soundbord: 34.5 cm


Depth of the bowl: 17.5 cm




Please note that this oud has a rather high action (about 6 mm at the joint between the neck and the bowl) and plays fine as is and sounds fantastic. If you intend to play fast passages and go on the higher register, you might want to consider taking it to a luthier to lower the action.


The sound of this oud has a big presence, smooth highs, low sustain, big bass, and a beautiful dark mellow Arabic tone.


Oud comes with a soft padded case. Remember: Mowais Ouds are not easy to find. This is a rare opportunity to get a fantastic instrument.
