Howdy from Texas! 🤠
Kurt fans rejoice!!! The Fender Jag-stang has always been a "love it or hate it" kind of design. The slab body, bulbous lower bout and unrefined look is endearing to some, and hideous to others. While i fall in the camp that loves the original Jagstang shape, I can also sympathize with wanting some more contours and a sleeker looking design that looks a bit more like a Fender designer came up with it. Enter the Jagstang "done right." Re-designed by luthier legend Paul Rhoney, is version adds a belly and tummy contour along with reshaping the body to look a little more fender-esque. For the finish, I wanted to attempt something ive never done before and try to replicate the "competition burgundy" (purple burst) finish that the first competition blue stangs had in 1969. The colors ended up being a little light on this first go, but it looked so cool i couldnt bring myself to cover it up. While i have since perfected the color combo for a competition burgundy finish, I still think this lighter version has tons of charm to it, sort of a more modern version of a classic finish. In keeping with the Kurt Cobain theme, this one is spec'd out like Kurts compstang, with a Mustang single coil in the neck position, and a Duncan Hot Rail in the bridge. This all comes together to create a truly unique, lovely feeling guitar that even someone with no familiarity to Nirvana or the Jagstang itself will love!
