About This Listing

1965 Gibson Byrdland Hollow Body Florentine Kalamazoo Natural Vintage 60's Guitar. This is a rare Natural model with Florentine cutaway and original hang tag & bridge paperwork. Only 11 of these were made in '65. It's the nicest Natural example we have ever seen from this era. The Byrdland is Gibson's top model with hand carved body, and was the flagship guitar of Gibson's legendary Kalamazoo, Michigan factory. Of the Byrdland's that were crafted in Kalamazoo, most had the rounded Venetian cutaway. It is remarkable how well preserved this 57 year old Gibson is. The figuring to the neck and body is intense, especially for a '65. The label inside the body is completely legible. If you want the very best, you are looking at it.  Investment grade collector's piece suitable for the best players in the best studios & on the best stages in the world.

Product Overview
The Byrdland was designed by Gibson with Billy Byrd and Hank Garland (the model name being a portmanteau of their last names). This guitar is similar to the L-5CES but with a thinner body and shorter scale. At the end of 1957, the Byrdland was graced with PAF humbuckers (replaced by Patent number humbuckers in 1962). In late 1960, the designed changed from a curved Florentine cutaway to a sharp Venetian cutaway. Later models and reissues have been made with either cutaway style.

Body Style: Hollowbody single cutaway

Years of Production: 1955 - 1985
