The Fender Musicmaster was originally introduced in 1956. The guitar quickly caught on with student and professional players alike. Artists like Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain were spotted playing the Musicmaster, possibly for its easy playability and comfortable body.
This vintage 1978 Musicmaster is in very good playing condition. The poplar body is black and has a thick gloss finish, a trademark of the CBS era. The 24-inch scale maple neck has a rosewood fingerboard with white-dot inlays. The headstock is the enlarged 70s type with the Musicmaster logo, and sports chrome tuners with the "F" logo stamped on the back.
Electronics include one slanted single-coil pickup in the neck position, one volume control and one tone control. The knobs are numbered Stratocaster style. The original pickup, which has flush pole pieces and a black cover, was replaced by a single-coil Seymour Duncan humbucker (original pickup provided). The tone is very Fender and warm when played clean. With distortion, this little guitar becomes a grungy beast.
The Musicmaster feels right at home with its Strat-like contours and, while appreciably smaller, doesn't seem so when playing. The action is set slightly high, but can be accommodated to taste. The bridge is a three-saddle, non-compensated type reminiscent of the original Telecaster.
Cosmetically, this Musicmaster is in good condition, with minor dings and scratches on the back, and a little fretboard wear. Hard case included.
