Up for sale is this 1971 Fender Competition Mustang that has mojo for days! This guitar has been set up to play very well. This Fender Mustang plays better than all the other Mustangs of this era that I have played, and I’ve played several.  Since this guitar doesn't have the matching headstock, you can get a Mustang that plays just as well, or better than the earlier ones, for a fraction of the price!

This guitar is perfect for both the collector, and the player. The body shows many years of loving play wear with checking, and some various marks and dings throughout. This is the kind of wear that even the custom shop master builders cannot replicate.

The Mustang is mostly original, but has had some repairs over the years to keep it playing beautifully. The pickguard was replaced by the previous owner due to a reaction underneath. Some of the paint came off underneath, as you can see in the picture attached. This does not affect the cosmetic condition of the outside at all, and some may say the guitar sounds better, because the lack of paint underneath the pickguard allows the wood to resonate more. The guitar's nut and frets were replaced to ensure that this guitar is ready for you to play right out of the box. The guitar is in fantastic shape overall, but the high e-string tuner is slightly bent. Saying this, it is barely noticeable unless you purposefully look for it.

The electronics of this guitar are all original, and function perfectly. The guitar plays beautifully, and has a wide variety of tones. When the pickups are out of phase, they have those grungy nirvana tones, and when the pickups are in phase they have acoustic-like darker tones. With this variety of tones, this guitar can handle almost any genre.

This guitar comes with the original gray case. The case has some various dings and small tears, but is in great condition overall and even comes with keys for the locks!

We realize we don’t have many reviews, even though we have bought and sold a few items on Reverb. We are not a professional store, but just people who love vintage guitars.  We are looking to sell this beauty to make room for another vintage guitar.  We are very open, and will gladly provide videos, or any other requested information.  If you are looking for any more pictures of the guitar, a video of it’s sound, or have any questions, please message me, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
