This signature is an extremely rare case as it was done after his performance at the London Blues fest with Blues Legends such as Slash, Ronnie Wood, and Susan Tedeschi on June 28, 2011. He was 85 at the time and was not signing guitars anymore which makes this an extremely rare case. He played the guitar a little before he signed it as well, making this an unforgettable story and experience!
Lucille:
Every great guitarist has a signature sound, but none have a more recognizable guitar than B.B. King’s beloved Lucille. And while B.B. King will forever be known as The King of the Blues, his unforgettable guitar has a legend all her own. According to this legend, King was playing at a dance hall in Arkansas in 1949 when a fight broke out. The fight led to a fire and the hall was evacuated, but King ran back inside to retrieve his Gibson guitar. He learned the next day that the 2 men who started the fight, who had in fact both perished in the blaze, had been fighting over a woman named Lucille. King named that first guitar Lucille, as a reminder to never make foolish decisions, like running into a burning building or fighting over a woman. Subsequently, every guitar he has owned since has been named Lucille.
Product Description:
The Gibson B B King Lucille first appeared in 1988, reflecting the heavy performance requirements of B. B. King and his touring show.
Stage volumes can get to be loud in a big band, and hollow archtop guitars can easily feed back uncontrollably. It was also B. B. King's habit to turn his amp up to at least 10 and control volume from the guitar. The lack of F-holes on the Lucille goes a long way towards damping feedback- the body is still hollow for tone, and the electronics are reached via a rear access panel.
This B B King Lucille dates to January 18, 2007 and features the closed thinline archtop maple-poplar-maple laminate body, mahogany neck with Richlite fingerboard with large mother of pearl block markers, and unusually, a cherry finish! The electronics are standard ES-355, with pickup selector, independent volume and tone controls, and six-position Varitone switch. All metal hardware is gold plated and the truss rod cover is gold-plated and engraved.
