Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

This rarely seen and very unique Astatic DK-1 model mic from the 1950's which was a small crystal microphone and all metal body with satin chrome finish. The DK-1 was an affordable, entry level microphone primarily used for dispatch and other basic communication purposes. This mic came with the original element and Astatic F-11 adapter as well in which to operate.

It should be noted that the mic came to me in non-operating condition as the crystal element was non-working which is pretty typical for these older microphones so I took liberties to replace the element with a quality Shure dynamic element for a 540 model microphone. The dynamic element is much like the crystal except that the dynamic is more rugged and will last longer. It's omni-directional and has good output but sound even better when cupped in the hand so this would be an exceptional harp mic and sound good with any harmonica you have due to it's High Z setting and dirtier tone.

The DK-1 is very lite weight and easy to hold. This can also make for a sweet shift knob on a hot rod as the thread is 5/8 and will fit no problem.

Many microphones in the 1950's were quite expensive. This DK-1 was easy on the pocket book if you needed something that was more affordable. Astatic didn't seem to sell too many of these DK-1 model mics however so finding one is hard enough but one in this physical state is rare indeed. it's an absolute gem and has a style all it's own.

As seen in the pics provided the DK-1 has a very nice satin chrome finish. No dents, fractures, scratches or pitting but there is some lite chrome loss exposing the brass material beneath. very hard to see from any distance though. The Astatic badge looks fantastic. The lower F-11 adapter is even nicer. I would rate the cosmetic condition a solid 8 + out of 1 - 10.

The Astatic F-11 adapter works perfectly. The cable length is appx 6 feet long. It's soft, pliable, free of damage and it comes with a vintage male Switchcraft 1/4 inch end connector.

This Astatic F-11 adapter allows you to mount the mic to any desk or floor stand.

Total height of mic with F-11 adapter is Appx 5 1/2 inches tall X 1 3/4 inches wide.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IN PICTURE IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.

As with all my vintage microphones for sale...
