Serato + Roland TR-SYNC Free Update Now Available!
Seamlessly add the legendary sound of Roland’s iconic drum machines to Serato DJ Pro setups with TR-SYNC update for TR-8, TR-8S, TR-08, and TR-09
Roland announces updates to its iconic TR-8, TR-8S, TR-08, and TR-09 drum machines, making them Serato DJ OSA-ready. This new functionality, named TR-SYNC, is now available as part of the latest Serato DJ Pro 2.1.1 update and allows DJs to effortlessly match the BPM of the TR drum machines with tracks playing on Serato DJ Pro. TR-SYNC lets DJs easily add their own drum loops to songs with the same Roland drum sounds used on the most popular tracks of yesterday and today, giving them the ability to flip genres, beef up classic hits, remix, and transition between songs in new ways.

To connect the Roland TR drum machine, plug the USB from the TR drum machine to the computer running the latest version of Serato DJ Pro with supported hardware, and then connect the audio output to an available input on the DJ mixer or controller. Because Serato DJ Pro takes care of the sync, DJs can focus on their performance and new creative possibilities.

Once DJs have mastered the basics of mixing and performance, adding a drum machine to the mix gives them a chance to stand out from the pack and expand their creative options substantially. DJs can layer complimentary rhythms over an existing track or use an acapella with loops they’ve created to bring brand-new on-the-fly remixes to life. Adding the TR drum sounds can make classic songs sound “bigger” and can bridge music libraries across different genres. Instead of relying solely on record pools DJs can now create their own signature edits and remixes for truly unique DJ sets.

This free TR-SYNC update is now supported in Serato DJ Pro, and firmware updates for Roland’s TR drum machines are also available.

Roland TR-8S
Producing a big sound, the TR-8S combines the best of its Roland heritage with modern production techniques and professional sound design. The TR-8S is born of the most famous and influential drum machines ever made, the TR series by Roland.

The TR-8S is a forward-thinking, performance-tuned instrument unlike any other. Build your dream kit from the most iconic drum sounds of all time, plus the finest selection of stereo samples from our vast library—or import your own custom samples. Tap, tune and tweak with hands-on controls and production tools that make your patterns move and groove. And why keep this kind of percussive power confined to the studio? The TR-8S was literally made to play live.

Transistor Rhythms
The TR-8S has every sound from the most sought-after TR drum machines, with detailed circuit-models of the 808, 606, 909, 707, 727, 626 and even several modified versions. These are not sound-alike sample-packs or mere recordings of TR drum sounds. Each machine is a detailed, down-to-the-circuit-model that sounds and behaves exactly like the original hardware. All these sounds are yours, at your fingertips, and ready to use in your own productions and performances.

ACB Meets Samples
Today’s rhythm tracks require a diverse set of sounds and production techniques, and it’s harder than ever to sound truly unique. While authentic TR sounds are vital for producing drum tracks, mixing and layering sounds opens a world of modern styles and the exciting potential to craft your own signature sound. Pull from the extensive collection of preset stereo samples or import your own using the SD card slot. Like the TR sounds, you can deeply manipulate samples with immediate hands-on control. Adjust decay and tuning and alter sample start points, speed, and direction. You can create a kit entirely from samples or mix and match with TR sounds for genre-defying drum tracks that demand attention.

Fast, Fluid, and Fun
You can program on the 16 TR-REC buttons or use the velocity-sensitive performance pad to play live, or record into the sequencer. And you can move seamlessly between either, playing and editing – reshaping your drum parts without ever interrupting your flow. Create intricate grooves and detailed fills using velocity, accents, flams, and adjustable sub-steps for modern rolls and ratcheting. Get experimental with unusual polyrhythms and complex meters by adjusting the length or “last step” of each drum part.

Variations on a Theme
Keep things fresh and exciting, even during extended live sets. The TR-8S can store 128 patterns—each with eight variations and three kinds of fills—and patterns and variations can be played or chained in any order. In performance situations, you can copy patterns on the fly and even stay ahead of the beat and work on patterns that aren’t currently playing. Each pattern can include the kit, knob positions, effect settings, and tempo, providing instant recall and enough storage and flexibility to play an entire set without ever repeating a measure in the same way.

In Motion
Professional sounding drum tracks require detailed production techniques. The TR-8S not only makes crafting this detail possible, it makes it fast and fun. Locking parameters to steps or recording motion into patterns can give you everything from subtle movements to dramatic tonal shifts. Automate bass drum tuning, snare pitch, panning, effects…whatever you want. You can create melodies and bass lines, or change the sound of a kit for different song sections. Motion recording is immediate and effortless, and motion playback can be instantly enabled or disabled.

Eight Analog Outputs
Like some of its famous siblings, the TR-8S has eight separate analog outputs, so you can process individual drum sounds through external effects or send them into separate channels of your mixer or DAW. Take control of your sound and decide which instruments or groups are sent to which outputs. And whatever you choose, know that the TR-8S sounds big.
