About This Listing

13 x 9. Pearl brand—but no badge present. This is a better-quality ‘60s made-in-Japan drum. Weighs 4.5 lbs. There are two pin-holes (must’ve been among the drum world’s tiniest brads) where a badge must’ve been. The holes are 2 7/16” apart, an even 2 & 1/2 if you allot for the curvature of the drum. There is just the faintest fade-shadow of a badge. Almost invisible, only perceivable if you are looking from a certain oblique angle. You can just make out that it was likely a rectangular badge. Looks like the badge was 1/2” wide, or likely a metric measurement like 13mm or 14mm width. Good identification challenge for the made in Japan ‘60s drum fan—and they have written in. The consensus is that these are lugs by Pearl.

The muffler mechanism is not present. The mount is missing. There is no badge or grommet. There is a bit of pitting to the plating on the lugs. I see one small spot on the resonant bearing edge that wants a bit of filler. But the drum is a solid one, multi-ply without re-rings, heavy. There’s a spot of masking tape residue that is quite old; shouldn’t be too troublesome, but it puts up resistance. I’ll leave it to you to choose how best to go after it (see pics). Overall, however, the drum glows with health. The black diamond pearl is a good one, with some visual depth. All the tension rods match. No parts have been changed on my watch, and I believe the t-rods and triple-flange hoops to be original to the drum. I hope this orphan will find a good roost. This is a good sounding drum that is capable of more good work.
