Well I’ll probably regret this later… up for sale is my 1970 fender competition mustang in burgundy blue with the matching headstock. This color combo with the matching headstock is extremely rare. It took me selling pretty much every guitar I have to get this bad boy. If you want the exact sound of the studio recordings of in utero this is it. The reissues sound great but they don’t sound like this. I’ve had to go through 7 mustangs to get one that sounds like this one. Check out the demo video.

I’ve gotta get what I paid for it. I’m not in a hurry to sell this and I almost don’t want it to sell because it’s value is only going to keep going up. I have it priced to get what I paid for it after shipping and reverb fees. Serious buyers send me a message and maybe we can work something out.
Comes with the hang tags, manual and original case, everything is original, the only thing not original to the guitar is a vintage hot rail pick up in the bridge position. It’s set up and sounds exactly like Kurt Cobains competition mustang that he loved so much. Also the switch’s have been lowered. It’s aged into a beautiful teal color just like Cobains. Here in Seattle his original mustang is in the museum and I’ve went and inspected it close up in person and took some high resolution photos. I’ve included side by side photos to see for yourself.

I have a gotoh TOM bridge that can easily be put on that I can include but I prefer the sound of it’s stock bridge, let me know which configuration you’d like. Kurt had the gotoh TOM on his. The gotoh is a drop in replacement bridge, no modification to the guitar is necessary to use it. So it’s nice to have both and you can experiment yourself. All you do is loosen the strings, and the bridge pulls right out, simply drop in the other. Very easy. However please note that if you do want to use a TOM on a mustang, like Kurt’s, you’ll need to shim the neck.

Frets have little to no wear, tons of life left. The neck is perfectly straight, the truss rod works great as well. Everything is absolutely perfect with this guitar.

Cosmetically theres some small scratches and nicks throughout which is normal for a guitar of this age but definitely not anything major

It’s a killer guitar and it’s in amazing shape. Any other questions feel free to ask. Thanks for looking!
