Title: 1979 Gibson Les Paul Standard – Natural – One Owner Since New, Kalamazoo-Built, Very Lightly Played, Warranty Card & OHSC. I special-ordered it, and it was built for me in Gibson’s original Kalamazoo, Michigan factory in the first days of 1979.
Description:
I’m the original and only owner of this 1979 Gibson Les Paul Standard in Natural. I bought it new from Pontiac Music in Michigan on January 26, 1979, shortly before I moved to Florida to attend the University of Florida. I still have the original pink Gibson warranty registration card, and it has the same serial number as the headstock.
Barely played in 47 years. I took lessons from 1979 to 1982. Every teacher I had offered to buy this guitar from me because it plays so well. After that, life got in the way, and it has sat in its case, virtually unplayed, ever since. Since 1991, a serious injury has kept me from playing at all. It’s time for this guitar to go to someone who will play it.
The serial number tells its story. Serial 70029012 dates it to the 2nd day of 1979. The “012” rank means it was built in Gibson’s original Kalamazoo, Michigan factory, not Nashville. It was sold off the wall a few weeks after it was built.
Specs:
- Natural finish over a maple top. Natural was an uncommon finish for Standards in this period.
- Mahogany body with cream binding
- 3-piece maple neck with rosewood fingerboard and trapezoid inlays
- “Made in U.S.A.” stamp on the back of the headstock
- Bell “Standard” truss rod cover and gold “Les Paul Model” script
- Cream pickup rings, pickguard and Rhythm/Treble switch ring
Modifications (fully disclosed):
- Both pickups have been swapped for Seymour Duncan humbuckers.
- Schaller “Made in W. Germany” tuners are installed.
- The bridge has been upgraded, and the tailpiece has fine tuners.
- [I do not have any of the original parts.]
Condition: Excellent vintage condition for its age. Frets show very little wear because the guitar was played so little. The finish is clean and glossy, with light scratches on the headstock face and minor marks consistent with 47 years in a case. No breaks, cracks or headstock repairs.
Included:
- Original Gibson molded hardshell case
- Original Gibson warranty registration card
Shipping is $175 to the US mainland. The guitar ships professionally packed in its case.
