JFET vs. Tube Overdrive

J-FETs (Junction Field-Effect Transistors) closely emulate vacuum tube architecture by operating on voltage-controlled current rather than standard bipolar transistor current. This allows JFET overdrive circuits to clip signal peaks smoothly with asymmetrical, even-order harmonics, producing the same natural compression, warmth, and dynamic touch-sensitivity as a cranked tube preamp.
