BOSS IR-2 Amp & Cabinet Simulator – Excellent Condition

The BOSS IR-2 is an excellent-sounding amp and cabinet simulator that packs professional-quality amplifier modeling and cabinet impulse responses into a compact BOSS stompbox.

I'm selling mine because I'm making some changes to my guitar rig. This pedal is in excellent condition and was only used for approximately two months in my home studio. It has been well cared for and has never been gigged or used on the road.

The IR-2 is a remarkably versatile pedal. It delivers everything from pristine American-style cleans and vintage British tones to modern high-gain sounds. The amp models respond naturally to your playing dynamics, and the included Celestion cabinet simulations provide realistic miked-cabinet tones without requiring a physical amplifier or speaker cabinet.

Whether you're building a direct-to-PA rig, recording in your home studio, or looking for a compact stereo amp solution, the IR-2 is a great piece of gear.

11 Professional Amp Models

The IR-2 includes 11 carefully developed amplifier models covering a wide range of classic and modern guitar tones.

These include:

  • Clean – Full, natural, transparent clean tones.
  • Twin – Classic American clean tones with plenty of headroom.
  • Tweed – Vintage American tube amp character and breakup.
  • Deluxe – Classic American combo sounds.
  • British – Classic British amplifier character.
  • Brown – Modern high-gain tones inspired by the BOSS Katana series.
  • Stack – Powerful British-style amplifier tones.
  • Lead – Focused overdriven lead tones.
  • Crunch – Responsive mid-gain rock tones.
  • Hi-Gain – Modern high-gain distortion.
  • Bass – Dedicated bass amplifier voicing.

Celestion Cabinet Impulse Responses

Each of the 11 amplifier models comes paired with a custom-curated Celestion Digital cabinet impulse response.

The IR-2 reproduces the sound of a miked guitar cabinet, giving you realistic speaker and microphone characteristics when connecting directly to a recording interface, PA system, powered speaker, or headphones.

You can also load your own third-party cabinet impulse responses using the dedicated BOSS IR Loader software via USB-C.

This gives you the flexibility to experiment with different speakers, cabinets, and microphone combinations rather than being limited to the factory selections.

Another useful feature is the ability to separate the amp and cabinet sections, allowing you to use the amp modeling independently or combine it with your preferred cabinet IR setup.

Excellent Stereo Capabilities

The IR-2 offers stereo outputs, making it a great choice for modern pedalboard configurations.

The stereo effects loop allows you to integrate modulation, delay, and reverb pedals after the amp modeling section. You can preserve your stereo effects while still benefiting from the IR-2's amplifier and cabinet simulation.

You can also use the two available amp channels to switch between different amp and cabinet combinations, either directly from the pedal or with an external footswitch.

Straightforward Controls & Excellent Tone Shaping

One of the things I like about the IR-2 is its straightforward interface. Unlike many amp modelers that require navigating menus and digital screens, the IR-2 uses familiar amplifier-style controls.

The controls include:

  • Type – Selects one of the 11 amplifier models.
  • Gain – Adjusts the amount of amplifier drive.
  • Level – Controls the output volume.
  • Bass, Middle, and Treble – Three-band EQ for shaping your tone.
  • Ambience – Adds room-like depth and spaciousness.

It's quick and intuitive to dial in great tones without having to navigate complicated menus.

Home Recording & Silent Practice

The IR-2 also makes an excellent recording solution.

The USB-C connection allows you to connect directly to your Mac or PC for recording into your favorite DAW. You can capture your fully processed guitar tone without needing a traditional amplifier, microphone, or separate audio interface.

Additional features include:

  • Dedicated headphone output for silent practice and recording.
  • USB-C audio interface functionality.
  • Direct stereo outputs for connecting to a PA or recording interface.
  • High-quality 32-bit floating-point processing.
  • 96kHz sampling rate.

Pedalboard Integration

The IR-2 works well with an existing collection of guitar pedals. You can place your overdrive, distortion, fuzz, and boost pedals in front of the amp modeling section, just as you would with a traditional amplifier.

The effects loop provides a convenient way to place modulation, delay, and reverb effects after the amp simulation.

Its compact BOSS footprint also makes it easy to incorporate into virtually any pedalboard.

Condition

  • Excellent cosmetic and working condition.
  • Used for approximately two months.
  • Home studio use only.
  • Never gigged or used on the road.
  • Fully functional.

The BOSS IR-2 is a fantastic-sounding, extremely versatile amp simulator. It's an excellent solution for anyone looking to simplify their guitar rig, build a direct recording setup, or add realistic amplifier and cabinet tones to their pedalboard.

A few details worth highlighting in your Reverb listing

  • Current condition: Excellent, two months of home studio use.
  • Pedal dimensions: 5.08" × 2.87" × 2.32".
  • Pedal weight: Approximately 1 lb.
  • Power: 9V DC, 160mA, center-negative.

One important distinction: The IR-2 has 11 factory amp/cab combinations, but unlike the larger IR-200, it does not have 128 user IR slots or two simultaneously running user-selected cabinet IRs. I've kept the description accurate to the IR-2.

I'd also mention whether the original box and PSA power adapter are included, since buyers often look for those when purchasing used BOSS pedals.
