Up for sale is an absolute Holy Grail of vintage snare drums – a Tama Artwood Solid Maple snare drum in the legendary Amber (AM) lacquer finish. Proudly crafted in Japan during the late 1980s, this masterpiece comes from an era when Tama made drums without compromises.
• Shell Construction & Thickness: Built using the traditional method from a single, solid ply of select maple (3.5mm thickness) with matching maple Sound Focus Rings (reinforcement hoops). This design provides unmatched acoustic warmth, incredible depth, and a massive dynamic range that modern ply drums simply cannot match.
• The Billy Cobham Inovation (11/10 Lugs): This drum features the revolutionary asymmetrical tuning system designed for Tama by the legendary Billy Cobham – 11 lugs on the batter (top) side and 10 lugs on the snare (bottom) side.
• The Catalog Advantage: Unlike standard drums with an even number of lugs where tension lines cross at a single center point, the 11-lug system creates triangular tension patterns. This results in a significantly larger center area of maximum head response, a complete absence of dead spots ("no dead spots"), and an incredibly wide tuning range.
• Condition & Hardware: Mint condition. Lovingly preserved in a smoke-free studio environment, it features zero scratches and absolutely no rust / pitting on the hardware.
