This Slingerland bass drum is a bit of a mystery and has clearly lived a tough life - but it sounds amazing. The badge is from the late 50's, but I don't know how many single tension rod kicks Slingerland were still making at that point. It is a 22"x12" mahogany, with all sorts of old hardware holes, one mismatched tension rod, and at some point someone added new leg mounts but apparently didn't have the legs - though that hasn't really been an issue for me while recording. I've tried other heads but always switched back to these old beat-up ones that came with it, and I tend to leave it wide open. Check out the video to hear it in that configuration. Is it the right bass drum to take on tour with your pop punk band? Probably not. But it is an amazing unique texture for recording if you want something big and boomy. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
