The JBL Professional M-Patch Active-1 is a discontinued, feature-rich studio monitor controller that brings together precision monitoring, flexible signal routing, USB audio connectivity, and integrated talkback functionality in one professional desktop unit.

What makes the Active-1 particularly remarkable is its ability to serve as a centralized studio control hub, combining capabilities typically handled by several separate pieces of equipment. Unlike passive monitor controllers that only reduce signal levels, its active circuitry provides both gain and attenuation, offering greater control over monitoring levels.

The Active-1 accommodates four stereo input sources (three analog and one USB), with seamless source selection and A/B switching between two monitor systems. Its integrated 24-bit/48 kHz USB audio interface allows direct stereo recording to a computer and playback monitoring without requiring a separate interface for those functions.

Another standout feature is the built-in condenser talkback microphone, allowing direct communication with performers through the headphone outputs or routing voice cues to a recording device. Optional footswitch activation adds hands-free convenience during recording sessions.

Additional professional features include two independent headphone amplifiers with dedicated volume controls, LED input-level metering, mono summing for phase compatibility checks, a -20 dB dim function, system mute, and selectable +4 dBu/-10 dBV levels for compatibility with professional and consumer audio equipment.

With a 114 dB dynamic range, low-distortion audio circuitry, and a durable metal enclosure, the Active-1 offers impressive monitoring flexibility for recording studios, production workstations, and broadcast applications.
