Custom made shekere by long-time artisan.
Medium large gourd sourced from growers in Georgia. Artisan finished in deep golden amber, then netted in large dark wooden beads creating a warmer, darker, full sound compared with acrylic beads.
See photos for size comparisons with a 2L bottle and ruler. This is an X-tra Large gourd with a lot of hand space and slap space on the bottom.
Player can tension the net according to playing style usung an adjustable cord lock. Skirt includes a "wrist loop" to prevent accidental droppage.
