The Akai E2 Headrush is a compact guitar effects pedal that combines delay, echo, and looping in one unit. It’s designed for guitarists, bassists, keyboard players, and experimental musicians who want to create everything from vintage tape-style echoes to layered, repeating musical phrases.

The E2 is particularly interesting because it isn't just a conventional delay pedal: it also has a dedicated looping-recording mode, making it useful for live performance, sound-on-sound experimentation, and building musical textures.

Three operating modes

1. Normal Delay

Creates standard digital delay, from short slapback echoes to long, atmospheric repeats. You can set the tempo using the tap-tempo footswitch, with a maximum delay time of 23.8 seconds.

2. Tape Echo

Simulates a vintage four-head tape echo. The separate virtual heads produce different echo timings, letting you create rhythmic patterns, cascading repeats, and sound-on-sound textures. Four dedicated head outputs allow creative routing to multiple amplifiers.

3. Looping Recorder

Record a musical phrase, have it play repeatedly, then overdub additional parts while the original loop continues. You can build up chords, bass lines, melodies, or layers of experimental noise in real time.

The main controls include:

• Level: Adjusts the effect or loop output level.
• Feedback: Controls the number of echo repeats.
• HF Damp: Darkens the repeats to imitate the softer, muffled character of tape.
• Time Coarse / Time Fine: Adjusts delay timing.
• Head Gap / Ratio: Shapes the timing and relative levels of the virtual tape heads.
• Two footswitches: Handle effect operation, tap tempo, recording, overdubbing, and playback, depending on the selected mode.

It has one input and five 1/4-inch outputs: a Mix output, a Head 1/Effect output, and separate Head 2–4 outputs. It runs on 9V DC power and weighs approximately 1.15 kg (2.54 lb).
