Gibson ES-330 1964 TDC
Selling this incredibly playing Gibson ES-330 1964 from the "golden years" of Gibson!
Recently set up and restrung with flat wounds(my preferred string).
Guitar has lived a long and very cared for life, certainly with some battle scars and modifications throughout. Will do my best to describe what I know and happy to provide more photos, videos or whatever you need to help you on your journey. It's a really amazing instrument and I am going to be sad to see it go.
serial number 181363
The Good:
Plays beautifully up and down the neck, frets are in great health, sounds deep and resonant when played acoustically and blooms when plugged in.
11/16” nut width!!
Brazilian rosewood fretboard
Original wiring, pots, switch & bigsby. In video I say the bridge is nickel, it's chrome but the bigsby appears to be nickel, which is very cool.
Lightweight 6lbs 7oz.
Middle position is out of phase - such a cool quacky, funky and very musical sound .
What's been changed:
Pickups are later 60s clear bobbin P90s - these seem pretty hot for P90s but this is only the 2nd P90 guitar I've owned. Certainly a lot louder than my ES335 I just purchased(hence why I need to sell this one :).
Bridge is a later 60s(believe 1968) chrome with nylon saddles.
3rd fret inlay has been changed.
Tuners
History:
Suffered a broken headstock at some point - has been professional repaired with 3 dowels that you can still see in the right light. They did a very tasteful job here repairing and added a very classy Stinger to help hide.
Refinished in nitro(body is checked), believe this was not an original cherry finish as very few of those were made in 1964, but who knows!?
Someone routed out the pickup cavities I assume to fit a humbucker but they are barely noticeable with p90s unless you’re really looking.
Broken output jack repair - pro work.
Crack in lower treble side horn.
Orange Sticker on the inside suffered damage at some point, unsure what.
Comes with late 60s maybe 70s style es330 case.
Obvious with a 62 year old instrument it has some Knicks and dings but overall condition is very clean.
This guitar is really just excellent, certainly not original but plays great and inspirational. Feel free to reach out with any questions!
