TAMA Granstar Custom 1987-1988 - CAR w/ SUPERSTAR lugs

Great sounding, great looking ~1987 to 1990 10" x 7.5" Tama Granstar Custom closed tom, badge serial number is 007037. The classic Candy Apple Red lacquer finish on 8 ply/9mm thickness Birch is straight from Japan. Neil Peart fans know the finish well. I swapped out the lugs from the "shark tooth" Granstar lugs to vintage Superstar lugs to match the rest of my Tama Superstar mid 80s kit. If you really need the "shark tooth" triangular lugs, they can be found online from the usual sources. The lug holes were an exact fit for the Superstar lugs. The rack mounting clamp assembly is the original Granstar Custom brand. See photos. I originally custom-ordered this shell around 1989 because Superstars in CAR lacquer were discontinued.

The batter head is an Evans Hydraulic 360; these heads are notoriously dead sounding as compared to single ply heads. You can see the tom mounted on my kit. I replaced it with a 12" Superstar concert tom. This Granstar tom has an Evans G1 single-ply head on the reso side. Mounting hardware, lugs, heads and triple flange rims, top and bottom, are included.

Full disclosure: this drum is almost 40 years old, and it had developed a small separation on one of the *inside* plys (NOT THE BEAD EDGE on which the head rests) which I noticed while doing a full inspection for this sale. This separation was NOT, I repeat NOT on the outer bead edge and did NOT affect tuning the drum whatsoever. Look carefully and you can see the outer bead, above the formerly separated inner plys, is fully intact. I used high-quality wood glue and carefully clamped the affected area for 24 hours. It came out fine. See pre and post fix photos. This is a full Granstar Custom CAR 10" tom, cosmetically altered with Superstar lugs.
