1984 Kentucky KM-Dawg Mandolin, Serial #84139 " Sumi-era, 1 of ~48 " Original Superior Case, K&K Pickup, Speed Neck, Original Frets Magazine
A rare, collectible piece of Japanese-era Kentucky history!
The KM-Dawg is Kentucky's reproduction of the Monteleone Grand Artist, made in Japan by the Sumi-led workshop in cooperation with John Monteleone. It's widely cited as a limited run of just 48 instruments, and examples rarely come up for sale. This one is serial #84139, which dates it to 1984 under the Kentucky serial convention (the first two digits are the year).
Please note this has a flat fingerboard (done by Steve Sorenson) but the original radius fingerboard (missing a few frets) is included in the case.
This is a played instrument with honest wear: mic dings, scratches and scuffs. There is a small repaired crack on the treble side of the f-hole. The repair is stable and has held up.
Included:
The original Superior Case
The original fingerboard
The original pickguard. Please note - It does not sit correctly against the angle of the neck, but it is included in the sale as-is.
Installed twin K&K pickup
An original copy of Frets Magazine with the full-length article on the Sumi-led Kentucky mandolin workshop behind the Dawg's production
These Dawgs have a reputation - if you know you know!
