The 1920s Martin-made Style 2 Ditson soprano ukulele combines the high-end, structural refinements of C.F. Martin's standard Style 2 with specific cosmetic branding and distribution specs unique to the Oliver Ditson Company. This all-original example has two small unrepaired cracks in the back and is housed in a period-correct soft shell case.

Body & Construction Specs

  • Body Size: Soprano.
  • Wood Material: All-solid premium genuine mahogany top, back, sides, and neck.
  • Top & Back Binding: Distinct triple-layer white celluloid (ivoroid) outer binding on the top edge and single-layer ivoroid binding on the back edge.
  • Soundhole Rosette: A 6-ply black-and-white wooden soundhole ring (or a classic tight-rope style design depending on the exact manufacturing batch year).
  • Body Dimensions: Total length of 20 7/8 inches (53 cm), a lower bout width of 6 3/8 inches (16.2 cm), and a side depth of 2 5/16 inches (5.9 cm).
  • Finish: Thin, natural semi-gloss hand-rubbed nitrocellulose varnish finish.

Neck & Fretboard Specs

  • Scale Length: Standard Martin soprano 13 3/4 inches scale.
  • Fingerboard: Premium Brazilian rosewood fingerboard holding 12 frets total to the body joint.
  • Frets: Traditional German silver bar frets.
  • Inlays: Small mother-of-pearl single position dots. On 1920s Ditson runs, the third dot permanently sits at the 10th fret rather than the 9th fret found on early 1916–1919 transitional builds.
  • Nut & Saddle: Carved genuine ebony nut and a simple matching ebony saddle slotted into the rosewood bridge.
  • Nut Width: 1 7/16 inches
