For sale is a vintage Japanese-made Boss PS-2 Digital Pitch Shifter/Delay in very good condition. This is a wonderfully characterful pedal that combines digital delay and pitch shifting in the familiar, compact Boss enclosure.
The PS-2 has a sound all its own. Its appeal is in the slightly grainy repeats and quirky, sometimes glitchy pitch shifting. It can add subtle texture and dimension to a clean guitar sound, or move into strange, dissonant territory as you explore the controls. There’s a roughness to its sound that works beautifully for atmospheric playing, experimental music, shoegaze, and noise.
As a delay, it’s useful for adding space around individual notes, building repeating phrases, and creating more spacious textures. The pitch-shifting side opens up another range of sounds, from octave effects to deliberately off-kilter intervals. The manual pitch setting is especially fun for finding unusual sounds by ear.
It’s a good choice for someone who enjoys exploring a pedal’s personality and finding sounds that aren’t perfectly polished. It can be musical and restrained, but there’s plenty of room to get weird with it, too.
