Beautiful Gibson K-1 Mandocello from 1917
This Mandocello is beautiful and sounds wonderful. It plays fine up and down the neck with the exception of frets 11-13 on the 4th (AA) string course. There is some buzzing there. These 2 or 3 frets need a little work. I think one fret is just a little high right there and needs to be dressed. It does not require a full re-fret but that wouldn't hurt.
This Mando has seen its share of repairs. There are some professionally repaired cracks on the sides. Check all the photos closely. There is a slight crack on the neck/headstock area that has been repaired as well. As you can see, it did not go through the neck, just about 1/4 of it, if that. IT has been like this for decades and has remained stable. This 99 year old instrument has clearly been loved and enjoyed. Fantastic piece of Gibson history. What a treasure! It is structurally sound and sounds great. I love the tone and mojo of these precious antique instruments.
