This is the next amplifier in my collection that I am selling due to health issues. I have another 5 or 6 amplifiers that I will be offering in the next few weeks so if this one doesn't interest you, check back later and there maybe one that fits your needs. Ok on to this one. This amplifier is in good condition and ready to go on the road or be used in the home as your main amp or maybe an auxiliary amp. When I purchased this amp it was incredibly clean on the inside while the case did show some usage as having been placed in a rack multiple times over the years. After my examination of this amp, it would appear that it was used very little and then was stored for quite some time. On the inside this looks like a new amplifier. That maybe due to the fact that it has a fan that is filtered and keeps the inside cool. The fan speed is tied to the temperature of the output amps. I performed a full restoration of this unit after I was satisfied that it was in good condition. I checked the capacitors with my tester as I removed each one, They all actually tested as good as new capacitors. Given the age of the unit I felt that this was just good insurance so I replaced the electrolytic capacitors with Nichicon capacitors that were selected for each position based upon the needs of the circuit. I replaced the protection relay and then rebuilt the entire power supply. Every diode, resistor, transistor and capacitor on the power supply was replaced as this is where the heat is the greatest and places the most stress on the components. I removed all traces dried glue as I worked through the boards. The dried glue gets corrosive and conductive as it ages and turns a dark color. If this is left on the boards, it will eat at the leads of the components and cause shorts. I then moved on to the input and protection circuit and then the amplifiers. Same procedure as before. I removed the mica pads from the output transistors and replaced them with silicone pads so that there is not a need for replacing the thermal transfer compound ever again. I tested the transistors throughout the left and right channels and all were good. After I was done replacing components, I checked the voltage of the power supply and then set the idle current of the amplifiers to 12mV per the service manual. After I was satisfied with my work I moved the amplifier to my system and proceeded to play my favorite tunes at various levels of loudness to force out any gremlins. This amplifier was rock steady. I can report that there were none. I rechecked the idle current after a couple of weeks just in case there was some drift. Both channels were still at 12mV. This is a very stable amplifier, a very good sounding amplifier with sufficient power (170 watts per channel) to run just about any system. It will accept speakers from 4 ohms to 16 ohms. Thank you for taking the time to look at my amplifier and to read through my ramblings. I will double box and surround it with Styrofoam insulation to prevent any damages from shipping.
