From the instantly recognizable Telefunken diamond logo on the outside to the historically accurate BV8 output transformer and M7 capsule on the inside, Telefunken Elektroakustik’s 47 recreation of the classic large diaphragm tube microphone is exact in every detail. Offering a forward mid-range and extended low-end response, the extremely versatile U47 has been a must-have mic for any serious vocal and classical recording project for more than 70 years.

A REVELATION REBORN

The first condenser mic to offer a choice of pickup patterns, with selectable cardioid or omnidirectional polar responses, the Telefunken U47 is considered by generations of engineers and artists to be one of the finest microphones ever produced. When it was first introduced in the late-1940s its detailed high-end and sweet sonic character were a revelation to listeners more familiar with the darker, less transparent sound of the standard ribbon microphones of the era.

A TIMELESS CLASSIC RE-ENGINEERED

The original components that helped give the U47 its clarity and tone are no longer made, so Telefunken Elektroakustik has gone to great lengths to recreate this classic tube mic for new generations. The military surplus VF14M vacuum tubes used in the original U47 amplifier are now extremely rare and pricey, so Telefunken Elektroakustik has specially developed the VF14K, a plug-and-play replacement. Georg Neumann’s famous M7 capsule, used in various early mic models, has been reengineered, as has the BV8 output transformer, using modern materials and manufacturing methods. With all those components snugly fitted inside the familiar large chrome head grille and matte nickel-finished body, the result is a modern take on a timeless classic that offers all the sonic character of the original.
