Gallien-Krueger MB200 200-Watt Ultra Light Micro Bass Head

The Gallien-Krueger MB200 is a small solid-state bass amp head built for portability: about 2 lb (0.91 kg) and roughly 7.75" × 8" × 1.75" (about 2.5" tall with the rubber feet).

It is best as a grab-and-go head: quiet gigs, rehearsals, studio, travel, or a spare.

Players generally like the familiar GK punch and the fact that it is quiet (low hiss if you are not running a tweeter). Limits are volume and headroom versus a 500–1000W head—pair it with an efficient 4-ohm cab if you need more stage level, or lean on the DI.

It is part of GK’s MicroBass line—classic GK-style tone in a chassis small enough to drop in a gig bag or even sit on a pedalboard.

Power and design

It uses a high-efficiency digital power amp and switch-mode supply. Rated output is 200 watts into 4 ohms and 140 watts into 8 ohms. That is enough for practice, rehearsal, small gigs, and as a backup or fly rig. It is not a loud-band “replace the PA” head; many players use the cabinet on stage and send the XLR DI to the house. Cooling is a variable-speed fan. Protection includes short-circuit, thermal, and RF protection, plus a muted warm-up. The power ring lights red on startup, then blue when the amp is healthy.

The EQ uses GK’s variable-Q idea from the 800RB lineage: extreme boosts/cuts stay relatively musical instead of getting honky or harsh.
