The JHS SuperBolt V2 is an overdrive pedal designed to recreate the character of 1960s Supro tube amplifiers, which are renowned for their clean yet gritty and highly dynamic sound. Since its original launch in 2012, the SuperBolt has become one of JHS's most acclaimed pedals, drawing inspiration from the tones used by guitarists such as Jimmy Page, Brian Setzer, and Drew Shirley.
Its Drive control functions much like the volume knob on a vintage amp: turning it up progressively increases saturation and introduces the "sag" response characteristic of tube rectifiers. The Tone control offers a wide sweep—ranging from warm, smooth sounds to aggressive, cutting tones—while consistently maintaining a musical character.
While it excels at classic rock sounds, the SuperBolt V2 can also produce bluesy tones by dialing back the Drive and Tone. With low gain and high volume settings, it functions as a boost, driving another amplifier and generating a harmonically rich response.
Internally, it converts the 9V power supply to 18V, providing ample headroom and a powerful output. The Gain control allows for a range of sounds spanning from near-clean to extreme saturation.
The key feature of the V2 is its dual-gain-level system: a front-mounted toggle selects the higher gain mode, and both levels can be switched via footswitch using the JHS Red Remote (sold separately).
