Sansui G-8000 Pure Power DC Stereo Receiver – Fully Recapped & Serviced – Original Box & Factory Packing

Offered here is an exceptional example of Sansui's legendary G-8000 Pure Power DC Stereo Receiver, one of the great heavyweight receivers of the late-1970s and a model that has earned a particularly devoted following among collectors of classic Sansui equipment.

This example combines beautiful cosmetic condition with extensive previous restoration, a fresh professional inspection and adjustment, and something becoming increasingly difficult to find more than four decades after these receivers were built: its original Sansui double-wall shipping carton and factory molded shipping suspensions.

Also included is the multi-pin DIN-to-stereo RCA adapter shown in the photographs.

Condition and Service

The photographs tell the story particularly well. This is a remarkably handsome G-8000.

The brushed aluminum face presents beautifully, the dial glass and illuminated display are clean and striking, and the large machined controls retain the imposing appearance that made Sansui's upper G-series receivers instantly recognizable. The simulated-walnut cabinet is especially attractive, with excellent color and grain and very little of the edge and corner damage so commonly encountered on receivers of this size and weight.

The chassis, bottom panel, heat sinks, terminals and connection panels are likewise quite clean for a component of this age. Please examine the photographs carefully so that the cosmetic condition can be judged directly.

Most importantly, this receiver has received considerable electronic attention.

The lead technician at Village Vinyl & Hi-Fi recently inspected and serviced the G-8000. During that work:

• All controls and switches were cleaned, flushed and exercised
• Bias was checked and set
• DC offset was checked and set
• The receiver was fully function tested
• The technician confirmed that the previous owner had replaced all panel illumination
• The technician also confirmed that the receiver had previously undergone a complete recap using high-quality NOS vintage capacitors

The receiver passed testing and is operating properly.

For vintage equipment of this caliber, we consider this combination particularly desirable: rather than simply relying upon the claim that a decades-old receiver "works," this G-8000 has had extensive previous electronic work followed by a fresh inspection, adjustment and functional test by an experienced professional technician.

The Sansui G-8000

Introduced during the height of the late-1970s receiver power wars, the G-8000 sat near the top of Sansui's formidable G-series lineup. Contemporary references put its original price around $900–$920 — equivalent to roughly $4,600–$4,700 in 2026 purchasing power—the G-8000 was an exceptionally expensive receiver in its day and represented Sansui operating near the top of the contemporary hi-fi market..

Sansui rated the G-8000 at an imposing:

120 watts per channel RMS into 8 ohms, from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, with no more than 0.03% total harmonic distortion.

But sheer wattage is only part of the appeal. The G-8000 is a genuinely massive piece of audio engineering, measuring approximately 22.0" W × 7.9" H × 18.7" D and weighing approximately 54.2 lb (24.6 kg).

Its unusual physical layout is immediately apparent when viewed from above or behind. The substantial amplifier heat-sink structure occupies much of the rear of the chassis, while many of the signal and speaker connections are located on recessed panels at the sides. It's an unusual and unmistakably Sansui solution—and gives the G-8000 a particularly purposeful appearance from almost any angle.

The front panel is classic maximalist 1970s Sansui: illuminated left- and right-channel power meters, separate tuning and signal-strength meters, enormous volume and tuning controls, and an extraordinary array of switching and adjustment facilities.

Connectivity and control facilities include two phono inputs, AUX, two tape circuits, microphone input and mixing control, preamp output/main amplifier input facilities, two speaker systems, bass/midrange/treble controls, tone defeat, loudness, audio muting, subsonic and high filters, FM muting, MPX noise cancellation, Dolby FM de-emphasis and provisions for external noise-reduction equipment.

Original Packaging & Included Adapter

Of particular note, this G-8000 retains its original Sansui factory carton and molded shipping suspensions.

The carton naturally shows substantial age, wear, old tape and storage wear, as clearly photographed, but the surviving original packaging is a significant addition to a receiver of this age and caliber. The molded factory supports are present and retain the contours specifically designed to support the G-8000.

The original carton will NOT be used as the exterior shipping carton. For shipment, the receiver will be carefully secured within the original factory packaging, and the complete original package will then be overboxed inside a new heavy-duty outer shipping carton with additional protective material. This both provides substantially greater protection to the receiver and preserves the increasingly scarce original Sansui carton.

Also included is the multi-pin DIN-to-left/right RCA adapter pictured in the listing.

This is a very large and very heavy receiver, and we take the transportation of vintage audio equipment extremely seriously.

The G-8000 will be insured for full value with Secursus, and packed with particular attention to its substantial weight, projecting controls, cabinet and faceplate. As noted above, its surviving original factory packaging will itself be protected within an additional heavy-duty outer carton rather than being entrusted directly to a carrier.
