Vintage 1970's Shure PE585 / SA585 dynamic cardioid microphone High Z w accessories 585SA SM58 # 2

         Hello and welcome to the House of Chrome.

 You are looking at a classic 1970's era Shure Brothers PE-585 (Same as the Shure 585SA model) dynamic cardioid microphone with excellent sound quality and set at high impedance.   The microphone comes with a vintage cable in which to operate and mic clip shown.

 Pic # 2 is from a Shure catalog I have showing all of the mics performance characteristics but not included in this sale.

 This was a bread butter mic for Shure Brothers. They sold possibly tens of thousands of these during the 1960's, 70's and 80's as they were rugged, reliable, practical and provided a quality  sound. A mic that could be used for general broadcasting, singing and was even used as a harp mic by many musicians due to the high impedance setting. A real workhorse with excellent uni-directional characteristics.

 The mic is actually more of a mid range dirtier tone and if you have a deeper voice like mine then it actually sounds really nice as it balances it out. Again, dirty in nature you'll find. Almost a "rockabilly" vibe that will be fun to use in certain environments or musical genres.

 If you want this same mic set at Low Z with more warmth and bass to the tone then the 585SB model is the way to go.

 These older mics are usually in rough condition after all these years so I have to put a lot of work into getting these up to par for resale. This one was in decent shape but I did have to put some elbow grease into it. It looks so much nicer than when it came to me and cleaned up very nice. Not perfect but pretty damn close. This mic is priced accordingly.

 The satin chrome finish shows very lite wear as seen in the pics provided in the form of a few lite scuff marks. The satin chrome has a gorgeous luster even after years of handling and the Shure logo that encircles the globe shows very lite wear but completely legible. The chrome globe is free of any odors or dents and no signs of tarnish. I added a new foam liner / pop filter to the inside of the globe as the old one had completely fell apart and this helps greatly with the sound characteristics. 

 Overall I would rate this mic physically a 9 + on a scale of 1 - 10 in the cosmetic department.

 This PE-585 comes with a short 8 inch custom built vintage Amphenol cable that's in great usable condition and comes with a male Switchcraft XLR end connector. The cable is soft and pliable. Simply leave it on the mic at all times then attach any longer XLR cable as an extension as needed. It's a very practical set up.

 The mic clip is a newer Shure A-25 model that works excellent for this mic giving the user a wide degree of tilt up and down and hold the mic tightly. The clip shows virtually no wear and works perfectly. It will screw onto any mic stand you have.

 This mic is ready to go and should last another 40 to 50 years at least. These mics were built to last.
