Fender Japan PB62-53 ’62-style Precision Bass in Candy Apple Red, Crafted in Japan.

Serial P055830 places this bass in Fender Japan’s 1999-2002 Crafted in Japan period. Fender’s own serial guide dates CIJ P-prefix instruments to 1999-2002. The PB62-53 also appears in Fender Japan’s 1999/2000-era lineup, so the model and serial are completely consistent with each other.

This was Fender Japan’s more affordable ’62-style Precision Bass, but it retained the important vintage-style appointments: basswood body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, 34" scale, 7.25" radius, 20 vintage-style frets, split Precision Bass pickup, vintage-style bridge, and traditional volume/tone controls. Candy Apple Red was an original factory color for the PB62-53, and Fender’s period catalog specifies a white 3-ply pickguard for the CAR version, exactly as seen here.

Overall in Very Good condition. There are some scratches, small dents and dings from normal use, but the Candy Apple Red finish still presents very well overall. The photos show the condition clearly.

The frets are particularly clean with little to no meaningful wear. I rated the remaining fret life approximately 9.7/10.

It has just been cleaned and set up and is playing well.

These late-’90s/early-2000s PB62 basses are a strong example of Fender Japan’s vintage-style production.
