FEEL FREE TO REACH OUT TO JOE'S VINTAGE GUITARS in Mesa, AZ with any questions, or to chat about the instrument.

Available here is a rare and exceptionally musical piece of vintage broadcast and studio history: a 1950s McIntosh audio mixer, model MM4, type B106. This vintage three-channel tube mixer is configured with three microphone channels alongside a dedicated phono channel, offering an incredible front-end tool for the discerning analog recordist.

Under the chassis, this unit is pure, uncompromised all-tube analog circuitry from the golden era of high-end audio engineering. These units typically came with mixed input transformer setups; this particular unit originally shipped with a single UTC A11 transformer on one channel, leaving the other two bare. To elevate its capabilities, a matching pair of vintage UTC A11 transformers has since been expertly added inside, making the most of that glorious all-tube signal path across the board. It has been tested, works reliably, operates remarkably quietly for its lineage, and features responsive, sweet-sounding onboard bass and treble EQ sections that add wonderful shape to any source.

Sonically, the all-tube design of this McIntosh mixer delivers a breathtaking, highly usable vintage tone that has served on numerous professional recordings. It functions exceptionally well as a tube microphone preamplifier, imparting a rich, three-dimensional warmth, gorgeous harmonic saturation, and authentic tube glue that modern solid-state preamps simply cannot replicate. While it has been a reliable part of our workflow, it is ready to find a new home in an analog studio where its all-tube magic will see regular use.
