This is a rare and collectable guitar. The 2002 Fender Classic Series ’72 Thinline in “Car Colors”. They were FSR (Fender Special Run) guitars that used vintage DoPont custom car colors, making them highly sought by collectors. There were five colors: Candy Apple Red, Lake Placid Blue, Sea Foam Green, Sonic Blue and Shell Pink. There were only one hundred made in each color making them highly sought after by collectors.
This beautiful candy apple red one was made in Mexico (as they all were). It is in excellent condition with only one ding (pictured). Curiously the ding reveals that Fender’s base paint on this guitar was silver followed by the Candy Apple Red. It is my understanding that this layered paint was used to bring out the deep color of the red. This was done to guitars and automobiles that used this color. In any case the finish on this guitar is stunning.
It is likely an ash body that is very light. The neck is highly figured maple, again very unusual for this model. Will be sent in a Fender hard case.
These guitars never come up for sale due to their low production numbers. I waited ten years to find this one. If you love these guitars for their rarity or the playability this is for you. Note: This is a 2002 not 2001 as listed on Reverb.
