Vintage Altec 288-16G high frequency compression driver large format from the 1980s.
Price is for 1 driver. I have two in similar condition, all original.
The diaphragms on both drivers are 1980s. They are not Great Plains Audio or the current reproductions. They pre-date either retailer and contain all original Altec parts.
These diaphragms are the 3rd generation original Altecs that have spade connectors, and are not the rare solid phenolic surrounds-they have the more common open trim ring typical of the late 60s to 1980s diaphragms. They are also considered to be more reliable than the pre war and post war versions.
Both these Altecs were serviced by Globe Entertainment in the 1980s. They were an Artist booking agency that also rented Altec Voice of the Theater speaker systems. Both drivers had their diaphragms regularly replaced, and the last dates listed on the drivers were in November 1982. There are many Globe notes written on the drivers by their service team.
There are no holes, cuts or major dents on these diaphragms. Any flaws in the aluminum are cosmetic in nature. They are about as good as you would hope to find for an original pair of 16 ohm vintage Altec 288 compression drivers.
