Vintage 1968 Fender oversized 2x12 speaker cabinet with two matching Fender Special Design Oxford 12T6-9 speakers.
This cabinet has been in my family for decades and was used on the bandstand in my grandmother's nightclub. The club closed in 1984, and the cabinet has remained indoors since then.
Identification / Details
- Two Fender Special Design Oxford 12T6-9 12" speakers
- Both speakers carry matching 465-809 EIA manufacturer/date codes
- 465 identifies Oxford as the speaker manufacturer; the codes date both speakers to the 9th week of 1968
- Internal cabinet number: F051468, burned/stamped into the wood
- Approximate cabinet dimensions: 39" H × 29" W × 11.5" D
- Closed-back vertical 2x12 construction
- Original-style fiberglass insulation remains inside
- Period Fender script logo and aluminum "drip edge" trim
- Two threaded piggyback mounting inserts on top
- Made in USA
The rear panel was carefully removed only to document the cabinet construction, speakers, labels, date codes, wiring and internal number. The speakers were not removed or altered, and the insulation was returned to its original position afterward.
The dimensions, construction, cosmetics and 1968-dated speakers are consistent with Fender's oversized Silverface/drip-edge 2x12 cabinets of this period. Similar cabinets were used with Fender Bandmaster and Bassman equipment. Because I have not found definitive documentation establishing which amplifier model this particular cabinet originally accompanied, I am not representing it specifically as either a Bandmaster or Bassman cabinet.
Condition
The cabinet shows substantial honest cosmetic wear consistent with its age and history as stage equipment, including scuffs, scratches, oxidation/tarnishing of metal hardware, marks and general exterior wear. Please examine the photographs carefully for condition.
The interior is remarkably clean for its age. Both matching Fender/Oxford speakers remain installed and appear physically intact.
IMPORTANT: This cabinet is being sold UNTESTED. I do not own an amplifier or appropriate testing equipment, so I cannot make any representation regarding the electrical or operating condition of either speaker. Serious local buyers are welcome to bring appropriate equipment and test the cabinet before purchasing.
This cabinet is approximately 58 years old, extremely large and very heavy. Local pickup only. Buyer should plan accordingly for transportation.
