Original Marshall The Guv’nor – Made in England – Vintage UK Model w/ Original Box & Jim Marshall Manual--Original Owner

Original vintage Marshall The Guv’nor, from the desirable early Made-in-England production run. This is the original Guv’nor design—not the later Guv’nor Plus or current reissue—and one of the pedals that helped establish the now-familiar “Marshall-in-a-box” concept. I am the original owner of this pedal (bought it new, and used it in bands and recordings in the late eighties/nineties.

The Guv’nor was designed to deliver the sound and feel of a driven Marshall amp in pedal form, ranging from lower-gain crunch through saturated classic-rock lead tones. Unlike many overdrives of its era, it provides a full three-band Bass/Middle/Treble EQ, along with Gain and Level controls, making it unusually versatile for shaping the pedal to different guitars and amps. It also has the original Loop jack for its built-in effects-loop function, as well as 9V DC or battery operation. The original Guv’nor has become a sought-after vintage Marshall pedal and is famously associated with Gary Moore and the classic British rock/blues lead sound.

This particular example is in Very Good condition for its age, with some minor scratches and normal signs of use but very strong overall cosmetics. The lettering, graphics and red pinstriping remain clear, the original colored control knobs are present, and the enclosure and sides are quite clean for a pedal of this vintage. It includes its original Marshall box and original “The Guv’nor” instruction leaflet featuring Jim Marshall, both of which are shown in the photos. The original box is clearly marked “MADE IN ENGLAND” and carries a numbered factory sticker, 20568. The box shows substantial age and storage wear, as would be expected, but is complete enough to make this a particularly nice vintage package.

Important disclosure: the original battery-compartment cover is missing. On these early Guv’nors the pedal’s Made-in-England/serial-number label was attached to that battery cover, so that label is no longer present on the pedal itself. The pedal has remained with this original Made-in-England box; I am including clear photographs of the box markings and numbered sticker so the buyer can see exactly what is present.

A very nice example of the original UK Marshall Guv’nor for someone looking for the genuine vintage version rather than the later models or reissue.
