For sale is an absolute metal machine: a 1999 Gibson Les Paul Standard in classic Heritage Cherry Sunburst. This guitar comes straight out of the highly coveted "Good Wood Era" (1990–2002), a golden production window widely recognized by collectors for superior wood selection, one-piece backs, and strict quality control before Gibson shifted its finest timber exclusively to the Custom Shop.
Why This Specific Guitar Stands Out:
* Active EMG 81 / 85 Upgrade: The original stock pickups have been upgraded to the legendary active EMG 81 (bridge) and EMG 85 (neck) combination. This is the ultimate high-gain setup—delivering razor-sharp clarity, massive output, and dead-silent operation under heavy distortion. The battery is cleanly housed in the rear control cavity.
* Solid & Resonant Construction: Features traditional 9-hole weight relief. It feels substantial in your hands and sustains forever—the perfect heavy, dense wood foundation for aggressive down-tuning and high-gain riffs.
The neck is straight and plays like butter.
* Pro Tuner Upgrade: The original green keystone tuners have been upgraded to premium Grover tuners. They offer vastly superior tuning stability and smoother gear ratios, making this guitar an absolute stage-ready workhorse that holds its tuning under heavy playing. [1]
* The 'Goldilocks' Neck: True to late-90s specs, the neck profile sits perfectly in the goldilocks zone—often likened to a '59 profile. It offers excellent hand support and resonance without feeling overly bulky like a '50s baseball bat or restrictively thin like a '60s taper.
Condition & Reassurance (100% Structural Integrity):
This guitar is a phenomenal player's instrument with a clean bill of health. It features standard, light surface wear and minor swirling expected from an authentic 27-year-old instrument.
Please note: There is a narrow line in the finish near the headstock/nut transition. I want to be 100% explicit: this looks strictly to be a superficial cosmetic lacquer crack (finish checking), NOT a wood break. The brittle nitrocellulose finish naturally split here over time at the joint as the wood and nut aged at different rates. I have thoroughly flex-tested the neck under full string tension—there is absolutely zero wood movement, the wood is perfectly solid, and the guitar stays in rock-solid tune. I have priced the low price as though it was a wood break however since I am not a Luthier. You get all the mojo of an aging vintage finish with total structural peace of mind.
